Giant Meteor to Hit Earth

It was reported today that a giant meteor the size of Texas is on a collision course with the earth. It is estimated that impact will be in exactly four months.

Imagine, if you will, that that is tonight's news broadcast. It's on every channel throughout the world and it would most certainly be the only story. Not to much else would really matter, now would it ?

I truly believe no one would care very much about movie stars, politicians, gas prices, or our favorite team. The person that cut in front of you today, the rude checkout girl, your obnoxious neighbor, junk mail....all the things we whine about to each other would be gone from our minds completely.

Now ask yourself, if that was tonight's headline, what would YOU do ? Who would you call to say "I Love You" who would you go see to spend some time with ? What would you do with those you care most about ? How would you act knowing that in exactly four months everything will be gone ?

O.K. breath in ...it's alright, To the best of my knowledge there is no meteor even the size of Mr. Peanut headed towards the earth.

But now that I have you here let me ask, Who amongst us is guaranteed four more months ? Oh ! no one raised their hands ..good.

I'm not suggesting we live our lives in fear or go about our daily routine just waiting for the end to suddenly happen. On the contrary, in my opinion we should all live our lives to the fullest, enjoy every moment not as though it is your last, simply as it is yours to enjoy. Because after all, your personal "meteor" is coming, we just don't know when.

I'll end this now because ....well, I need to call an old friend I haven't spoken to in awhile.

So one of my loved one's read your blog and was all @#$@#&*ed because you sounded like an alarmist idiot, and she sent me your link so that I could see how people are becoming upset about the pending meteor hit.

So I read it and realized that you were kidding, trying to make a point, as was obvious 1/2 way through the story... and this provided me with an opportunity to point out to her that this is a problem with many in our land.

The "many" read a headline, maybe the first paragraph, and think they have a story to tell. They don't bother to read the entire story or blog... and so they spread mis-information and misunderstanding.

Thanks for the thought-provoking read.

Wow .. . . I'm not sure which was a better story, the one I wrote or the one your Loved one told ? You are so correct about how far too many people get part of a story and then run with it.

I understand the power of a compelling headline in copywriting but I never thought that was all someone would read. I'm glad you took the time to see the real meaning of my article. Thank You
